In January 2020, PIM rebranded from Philanthropy in Motion to Purpose in Motion, reflecting our evolution as an educational organization that cultivates mission-driven young people by facilitating their internal transformation and equipping them with the tools and resources for external social impact. While we had many plans for the year, the Covid-19 Pandemic has forced us, like many other organizations, to adapt. We are proud to present to you our 2020 Annual Report, which encapsulates some the lessons we have learnt and progress we have made in this tumultuous year.

Evaluating 2020:
In 2020, PIM has
1. Provided 1,810 young people with supportive communities, networks, and resources
2. Directed 544,700 RMB to community organizations while strengthening connections to support and sustain changemakers in the long-term.
3. Supported citizen initiatives launched to tackle the effects of COVID-19 in China, India and beyond.
Key Highlights:
In 2020,
1. As COVID-19 spread, we turned our attention to a pandemic-related challenge: fostering mental health, well-being, and a sense of purpose. In conjunction with Yale psychology professor Dr. Laurie Santos, we launched the “Happiness Challenge”, a 21-day challenge-based education program to help individuals practice resilience and wellbeing, supporting over 1500 people globally.
2. We continued our efforts to mobilize support for the grassroots initiatives that sprung up facing the pandemic. We launched the Pop-Up Giving Circle and distributed crowdsourced funds to coronavirus relief efforts. In partnership with Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, our Goalkeeper Action Fund supported new Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) initiatives launched by young Chinese leaders.
3. We experimented with various forms of online education and provided our original series of career workshops for partners such as the Yenching Academy of Peking University, SEE Foundation, and SEO-China.
4. We worked closely with nine partner universities that were developing philanthropy and nonprofit management degrees as part of the Handan Action Grants initiative
Finally,
As our Co-Founder, Jasmine Lau, describes in her opening message,“purpose helps us to tap into reserves of strength, resilience, and creativity to support ourselves and to come together as a society to address the big challenges before us.” 2020 has not been an easy year, but it has been an important reminder of what purpose means, and what purpose can achieve.
We are truly grateful for our partners, supporters, and community for being on with us on this journey together.
