From Vision to Strategy: Building a Strong Business Model

On 22 February 2025, we held the second workshop of our Launch for Good: Masterclass for Social Entrepreneurs series, focused on transforming visions into actionable plans. The engaging session took participants through the steps of creating a business model that works for social enterprises.

Led by our expert speaker, Gustavo Cadiz, the workshop went through the Theory of Change and Business Model Canvas, and evaluated case studies of successful social enterprises using these concepts. During the breakout discussion, participants tried their hands on creating their own business models and received feedback from our speaker, making the session both interactive and impactful.

Key Takeaways from the Workshop:

  • Business Modelling: A good business model is critical for social enterprises as it outlines how the enterprise creates and delivers value while balancing mission and profit. Some questions to consider are: What unique value does your enterprise offer to the target market? Who are the beneficiaries or customers you aim to serve? What channels will you use to reach these customers (e.g. digital, physical, hybrid)? What is your revenue model (e.g. sales, subscriptions)?
  • Theory of Change: This is a vital framework for social entrepreneurs, as it explains how and why a desired change is expected to occur, outlining the causal pathways from interventions to outcomes.
By identifying necessary inputs such as trained facilitators and educational materials, we can design targeted activities that lead to specific outputs (e.g.  enhanced knowledge and skills), which contribute to meaningful outcomes such as increased community engagement and improved health practices.
